CARD Announces Construction Kickoff for Chapman Park Renovation

Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) is excited to announce the beginning of the Chapman Park renovation construction starting Monday, June 5. In December 2021, the Chapman Park Renovation project was one of 62 selected projects throughout California for a $2.9 million grant to renovate and expand the existing park space.

“To receive such a competitive grant speaks volumes to the merit of the project,” said CARD general manager Annabel Grimm. “The deserving residents of the Chapman neighborhood inspired the vision. The hard work and dedication of the District staff and the design team deserve all the credit for the award. We hope to make the community proud with a one-of-a-kind park.”

This $2.9 million in grant funding is a transformative investment in the Chapman neighborhood and will allow for improved amenities such as a splash pad, resurfaced multi-sport court, an expanded garden, a covered picnic structure, a lighted walking and bike path, new bathrooms, and more. Melton Design Group was selected to provide expansive design options, and R&R Horn, Inc. was chosen to install the new park amenities.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to help in the transformation of this community neighborhood with a state-of-the-art recreation facility that will bring fun and wellness that’s unique to Chico,” said Connor Melton of Melton Design Group.

The owners of R&R Horn, Inc. shared, "We're not just contractors working on a project; we are members of the community rejuvenating a park where our own children once played. Our goal is to enhance and modernize Chapman Park without losing sight of its history and the community bonds it fosters."
