Meet Edgar: Chico Creek Nature Center Welcomes a New Animal Ambassador
April 3, 2025

The Chico Creek Nature Center is thrilled to introduce its newest animal ambassador—Edgar, a stunning common raven! At just 1.5 years old, Edgar is already captivating visitors with his intelligence and striking presence. Though he is physically healthy, Edgar became dependent on humans and has been deemed non-releasable. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, he has found a permanent home at the Janeece Webb Living Animal Museum.
Edgar's arrival is especially exciting for those who remember Gruck the crow, a beloved former resident at the Nature Center. Like Gruck, Edgar will play a vital role in educating the community about local wildlife and conservation. Common ravens can live up to 40 years or more in captivity, meaning Edgar will be inspiring visitors for decades to come.
“We are beyond excited to welcome Edgar to the Nature Center,” said Josh Stewart, Nature Programming Recreation Supervisor for CARD. “He’s not only a beautiful and intelligent bird but also an incredible ambassador for local wildlife. He’ll be teaching kids about nature for the next 20+ years, and we can’t wait for the community to meet him.”
The Janeece Webb Living Animal Museum is open Fridays from 10 AM–1 PM and Saturdays & Sundays from 10 AM–3 PM. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, meet Edgar, and learn more about the fascinating world of ravens and other local wildlife.
