Get ready for a tail-wagging good time at the annual K-9 Classic, happening Saturday, May 17, from 10 AM to 1 PM at DeGarmo Park. Hosted by the Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD), this free event celebrates the special bond between dogs and their humans with a fun-filled day of activities, entertainment, and community spirit.

The K-9 Classic features a variety of dog-centered festivities, including free Shubert's ice cream for dogs and humans alike (while supplies last), dog-friendly vendor booths, an exciting K-9 obstacle course, bounce houses, games, face painting for kids, delicious food trucks, and the crowd-favorite Mutt Strut costume and talent contest. Plus, attendees will get to experience an incredible demonstration by the Chico Police Department’s K-9 Unit, showcasing the impressive skills and discipline of these working dogs.

"The K-9 Classic is truly one of our staff’s favorite events," said Annabel Grimm, CARD General Manager. "We love seeing all the dogs and their families come together for such a fun, relaxed day in the park. It's a joyful reminder of the wonderful community we have here in Chico."

Dog lovers are also invited to enter their furry friends in the online Dog Photo “Best in Show” Contest. Registration is $10 and must be completed by Friday, May 9. Participants will submit a photo of their dog, which will be posted on CARD’s Facebook page. The photo with the most Facebook “likes” will win a prize pack featuring a Trailblazer Pet Supply gift card, CARD merchandise, and more. For details and registration, visit chicorec.gov/k9-classic.

DeGarmo Park will be the place to be for all dog enthusiasts on May 17. Whether participating in the obstacle course, strutting their stuff in the Mutt Strut, or simply enjoying a scoop of Shubert’s ice cream, every pup and person is sure to have a paw-sitively perfect day.
