Rex Murphy Field

Murphy Field is named in honor of Rex L. Murphy, a former CARD Park Supervisor and dedicated civic leader whose passion for youth sports and community service left a lasting impact on Chico. Murphy served as president of Chico Youth Baseball and was instrumental in supporting local youth baseball programs, leading to the naming of the Pony League Baseball Field in his honor.
Beyond his service with CARD, he was active in civic life as past president of the Chico Breakfast Lions Club, a member of the Elks Lodge, and chairman of the 1961 Cancer Crusade. A World War II veteran, Murphy served in the Army Air Force in the China and Burma campaigns, earning both the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. His dedication to both the community and the nation is remembered through the field that bears his name, a lasting tribute to his service and commitment to Chico’s parks and youth.
